I'm dropping my son off at college for his freshman year. As we are walking or sitting at the coffee shop he'll come over to us with an odd smile on his face. When we ask what's going on, he says that he's just met someone from his new class that he'd friended in Facebook. What's interesting to me about this is that he admits that he finds this kind of odd and even vaguely uncomfortable. It's nice to know that even in a world that values virtual acquaintanceship a real face-to-face meeting still has currency.
